In 1999 a plan was formed, to construct new premises for the Kimihauora Health Clinic (at the time). The reason being, to offer a more extensive range of Health Care and support for the local community, and room for the new Aotearoa Familial Gastric Cancer project.

The support from the wider community and funders was astounding and before the end of 2000 work had begun on what was to be the new Kimihauora Health Centre. With the generosity of the Mangatawa Papamoa Bocks Incorporation and shareholders, Kimihauora was allowed to occupy a small block of the land close the Marae and Kaumatua Flats at Mangatawa Lane, Mount Maunganui.

By March 15th 2001, the new building was ready for the opening. Invitations out and a guest list of up to 250 people were expected at the Tamapahore Marae, Mount Maunganui. The Powhiri conducted by our local 'Dial a Kaumatua Service' and with the help of the local Arataki School, Bilingual Unit who sang beautiful Maori songs, ran smoothly.

The Emcee for the day, Pahu Akuhata, resident Apotoro, ran the proceedings from the Health Clinic.

The speakers were, Petera Ririnui, Sonny Sewell - Chairman, Mangatawa Papamoa Blocks Inc. and local Maori MP for Waiariki, Mr Mita Ririnui, who opened the building.

A dedication stone was unveiled by Mrs Kapuhuia Muru and Mrs Kim Elvin. Then people were invited to view the new building while being serenaded by the beautiful sound of the Arataki School Bilingual Unit.

A special thank you to all the volunteers and workers who helped to create the 'now known as' Kimihauora Health Centre.
